Maine Woman Dies In Six-Vehicle Crash On Interstate 495 In Amesbury
AMESBURY, Mass. (CBS) -- A 73-year-old Maine woman was killed in a multiple vehicle crash Friday afternoon on Interstate 495, the state police reported in a prepared statement.
At about 2:36 p.m. Friday, troopers were dispatched to I-495 northbound, south of Route 150 in Amesbury. When they arrived at the crash scene, the troopers discovered that a 2007 Pontiac G6 had collided with several vehicles.
When the crash occurred, the Pontiac driven by Patricia Foley, 73, of Limerick, Maine, made contact with five vehicles: a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Barbara Monopoli, 69, of Salisbury; a Chrysler operated by Thomas Liesegang, 58, of Brookfield; a 2006 Toyota Highlander operated by Kimberly Sanchez, 40, of Newburyport; a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer operated by Tiffany Waters, 33, of Epping, N.H.; and a 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit operated by David Ferro, 36, of Northborough.
Foley was the only driver to suffer serious injuries, state police said. She was initially taken to Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport, then transferred to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, where she later died as a result of the injuries sustained during the crash, the state police said.
Troopers from the state police barracks in Newbury are investigating the crash.
