Maddux Withdraws From Red Sox Manager Search
BOSTON (CBS) - All will be quiet at Fenway Park on Tuesday.
"Mike Maddux has withdrawn his name from consideration for the Boston Red Sox managerial position and therefore will not interview with the team tomorrow," Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington announced in a release Monday.
Sources told WBZ-TV's Dan Roche that Maddux withdrew his name for "family reasons."
Maddux was slated to be the third candidate to interview for the Boston job, after Pete Mackanin and Dale Sveum interviewed last week.
Maddux has served as the Texas Rangers pitching coach since 2008, helping their staff transform into one of the best in the majors.
Theo Epstein and the Chicago Cubs were also interested in Maddux for their vacant managerial position. No interview has been scheduled between the two sides, though.
The Red Sox will interview Cleveland Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr. on Wednesday.
