MA Medical Society Pushing For Tighter Regulations On Medicinal Marijuana

BOSTON (CBS) - The state's largest physician organization wants to ensure the new law allowing the medical use of marijuana is not overused by patients.

The Massachusetts Medical Society isn't seeking a delay in the law, but it will try to get tighter regulations in place for doctors whose patients want to use marijuana for medicinal purposes.

Some groups, like the Massachusetts Municipal Association are asking the legislature to delay the law, which is scheduled to take effect on January 1.

Under the measure, patients who suffer from debilitating medical conditions will have to get permission from their doctors to buy pot from state sanctioned distribution centers.
