Man Hit, Seriously Hurt By Garbage Truck On Lynnway
LYNN (CBS) – A man was seriously injured after he was hit by a trash truck Wednesday morning on the Lynnway.
The man was struck on the southbound side of the road near McDonald's around 7 a.m.
A witness, who did not want to be identified, said he was getting his morning coffee at McDonald's when the accident happened. He and an off-duty EMT rushed over to help.
"He wasn't breathing. We rolled him over. She did CPR, and his Adam's apple started going up and down, and I was just like 'Alright, he's alive,'" the witness said.
"The truck driver was scared to death," the witness said. "He was a mess - rightfully so."
Regulars at McDonald's said they've never seen an accident this bad but that people frequently jump the concrete barrier along the Lynnway.
"It's faster than going down to the light where you're supposed to and waiting for the light to change," said Sean Buckman, of Lynn.
The right and middle travel lanes were closed while Massachusetts State Police investigated. The truck was towed from the scene and the Lynnway has since reopened.
Police say the man was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries, but there has been no update on his condition.
