Several Cars Smashed, Damaged On Ocean Street In Lynn
LYNN (CBS) – Several drivers woke up early Monday morning to find their cars seriously damaged overnight in Lynn.
There was a trail of destruction on Ocean Street by sunrise. Parked cars had been smashed into each other. Others had their front ends completely mangled. A black sedan was pushed up on to the sidewalk. Some vehicles had their windows smashed and there was glass and debris scattered all over the street. About ten cars in total had some kind of damage.
One resident told WBZ-TV he was woken up around 12:30 a.m. by a loud bang.
"After the first bang, we heard several other bangs. That's when everybody came outside," he said. "A small Honda hatchback vehicle. He hit that van behind me. And six other vehicles. A little black Toyota Camry that he hit so hard it he put it on the sidewalk."
The resident, who only identified himself as Llewellyn, said it appeared that the driver was impaired.
"I can't believe it honestly. The guy must've been drunk or something because you just don't ping off of 11 cars if you're not under the influence of something," another resident, Samantha Ward, told WBZ.
There's no word yet on any arrests or charges.
Most of the cars were towed away as police looked into what happened.
Jamal McCaster lives on Ocean Street but said he never parks there because cars are constantly getting sideswiped.
"I don't want to deal with insurance and all that stuff. It's annoying. It's a hassle," he told WBZ.
Mallarie Yeager's car was slightly damaged.
"I was a lot more surprised when I looked down the road, I just saw like glass everywhere," she said.
No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
