Lynn Home Hit By Car For Second Time In 35 Years

LYNN (CBS) – A home in Lynn was hit by a car late Wednesday night and it's not the first time the owner has had to deal with this type of problem.

"It was a little after 11 o'clock last night and I heard a loud thud," Kim Zolo told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Thursday.

That thud was a stolen Lincoln Continental that slammed into the back of her neighbor's house on Salem Street.

Zolo said the driver sped through a stop sign, drove through a hedge, smacked into the side of the house, got out of the car a little disoriented and then ran away.

"I thought 'Thank God it happened late at night' and there weren't more people around the street because it is a well-traveled street. We have lots of kids on this street," she said.

Police are still looking for the driver.

The home owner, Phil Torto, told WBZ the same thing happened 35 years ago, when a car plowed into the front of his house.

"I think we were very unfortunate, but very lucky at the same time, because it could have been so much worse, damage-wise and physical safety-wise," he said.

The family room will need repairs, but Torto's house is structurally sound, according to a building inspector who checked it out.

"My wife and I are retired. It's not like we have to go to work this morning and my insurance guy just told me that this company will come in and actually clean this all up," Torto said.
