Lunenburg Football Invited To Gillette After Season Canceled Due To Racist Graffiti Scandal
FOXBORO (CBS) --- A high school football team forced to end their season early after racist graffiti appeared on one player's home, spent Tuesday at Gillette Stadium.
The Lunenburg football team was treated to a private tour of the Patriots Hall Of Fame and welcomed with open arms, a change from last fall when the team was demonized and some players called racists.
As fingers were being pointed at the team, their season was canceled.
It turned out they were anything but racists.
After a lengthy investigation, the district attorney said no charges would be filed, even as police called the victim's mother a 'strong suspect' in the case.
The team was exonerated.
On Tuesday, they got to meet Patriots player Jerod Mayor, stand by team memorabilia and dream.
"It's nice of the Patriots to invite us and help us look forward to next year,"Principal Brian Spadafino said. "It's a nice thing for the kids to have that closure."
Junior Quarterback Jeremy Nash is looking forward to next season.
"We're not going to think about the past," he said. "I feel bad for the seniors but we're going to move forward from this."
