Lucchino Says Terry Francona's Red Sox Book Is "Distressing"
BOSTON (CBS) - With Spring Training just days away, WBZ-TV's Dan Roche sat down with Red Sox President and CEO Larry Lucchino for an exclusive interview.
Lucchino commented on former manager Terry Francona's book for the first time.
"Some of the themes were distressing," Lucchino said of Francona: The Red Sox Years, which he has only read excerpts of.
"I've got to admit to that the notion that we don't love baseball enough, or that we're in it for the money instead of the commitment to winning, I mean those things are preposterous."
He also doesn't like to hear when fans complain that John Henry and Tom Werner are more concerned about their Liverpool soccer team than the Sox.
"I can just say that their commitment to the Red Sox is right at the top of the list," says Lucchino. "It hasn't wavered since day one, they know what a privilege it is to be in this position."
As for the 2013 team, Lucchino is impressed that some 25 players are already in Fort Myers a week ahead of the reporting date.
"The players are into it and optimistic and arriving early and I think they recognize the challenge they have."
