Lowell Probation Officer Accused Of Pocketing Money From Probationers
LOWELL (CBS) - A Lowell probation officer is accused of stealing cash payments that were supposed to go to the court.
Benjamin Okiwe of Quincy was arraigned Wednesday on charges of larceny.
Police say he took thousands of dollars from defendants who were out on probation.
The money was supposed to pay a monthly supervision fee.
Police say Okiwe never recorded the payments.
In January 2010, the court had stopped taking payments, but officials say Okiwe continued to request them from his parolees.
