Lowell Officer Photographed Sleeping In Cruiser Resigns
LOWELL, Mass. (AP) — Officials say a Lowell police officer who was photographed allegedly taking a nap inside his cruiser while on duty has resigned.
The Sun published a photograph last Friday showing the officer apparently asleep behind the wheel of his cruiser with his seat reclined.
City Manager Kevin Murphy said Thursday that he was unsurprised by Officer Jeff Moore's decision, calling it "sad." Moore was likely facing termination.
Murphy also called Moore's actions "an embarrassment to the city and to the police department."
Police Superintendent William Taylor on Saturday confirmed the officer had been placed on paid administrative leave.
Taylor was unavailable to comment on Moore's resignation, which was effective immediately.
Several attempts by the newspaper to reach Moore have been unsuccessful.
