Good Samaritans Save Mother And Child From Lowell House Fire
LOWELL (CBS) – A pair of Good Samaritans rushed to save a Lowell mother and her daughter as flames broke out in their home late Thursday night.
The fire started on Moore Street just after 11 p.m.
Edward Lavoie was inside a nearby house when he saw the flames. He rushed over and tried to knock down the door, and said a passing tow truck driver stopped to help.
"He helped me kick the door in. We kicked that in and got the kid out first. Then a woman followed," Lavoie said.
The mother was taken to the hospital for observation.
In cell phone video, a voice can be heard yelling "Get out! Get out of the house!" as flames rage.
Lavoie said he doesn't think he's a hero.
"Anybody, if they have the chance to do that should do it. It's a life involved. It means a lot to everybody," Lavoie said.
Though the building was heavily damaged, firefighters said the house is not a total loss.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
