Fiery Lowell Car Crash Kills 2
LOWELL (CBS/AP) — Two people have been killed in a fiery car crash in Lowell overnight.
Officers arriving at the scene early Sunday found the burning car on its roof and covered with live electrical wires. They were unable to immediately reach the victims.
Police said the car apparently was traveling south on Bridge Street just after midnight when it crashed into a utility pole on the right side of the road and flipped over. The pole, which had transformers on its top, was split in three pieces.
One person was partially ejected from the car. The second person was found inside.
The Lowell Sun reports that John Valente identified his daughter Victoria Lynn Valente and her boyfriend Justin Fisher -- both in their 20s -- as the two people who died in the crash.
Friends who attended a vigil at the crash site Sunday night say the two were high school sweethearts.
The medical examiner have not officially identified the victims.
Police said there is no sign of another car being involved or any skid marks indicating the car had tried to avoid the crash.
