Low-Hanging Electronic Signs In O'Neill Tunnel Removed
BOSTON (CBS) – Two low-hanging electronic signs caused traffic problems briefly in the O'Neill Tunnel Tuesday morning.
A spokesperson for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation said an "over height" tractor-trailer struck the two lane use signals just before 10 a.m.
"The signals are used as traffic control devices and drivers may know them as the devices that display green arrows or red X's to steer traffic to or from certain lanes," MassDOT said in a statement.
"The first signal hit was located near the entrance to the I-93 Northbound Tunnel and the second was hit by Exit 26, the Storrow Drive exit."
There were no incidents. The signs were removed just before 11 a.m. and all lanes were re-opened to traffic.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from the tunnel to identify the truck.
