Londonderry, NH Man Kills Fuel Company Employee Before Attempting Suicide

LONDONDERRY, N.H. (CBS) – Police and SWAT team members were on scene for several hours in a New Hampshire neighborhood after a man allegedly killed a fuel delivery employee and attempted to take his own life.

According to the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office, police responded to Currier Drive in Londonderry after a call for a welfare check at the home.

SWAT team members as well as the Massachusetts State Police explosives division responded to the home. The neighborhood was evacuated and several schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Neighbors told police a fuel van pulled up to the home and they heard gunfire a short time later.

On Tuesday night, the New Hampshire Attorney General's office confirmed that the homeowner shot and killed a City Fuel employee who had pulled up to the house. It appears the man then attempted suicide.

"He's in critical condition at a hospital in Massachusetts at this time," Senior Assistant Attorney General Jeff Strelzin said.

The name of the victim has not been released by investigators pending notification of next of kin.

Neighbors identified the homeowner as Richard Verville and described him as a paranoid man in his 70s. They said he was known to start altercations with others and had several surveillance cameras on his home.

"Delusional-type talking and handing out pamphlets saying that he's on terrorist watch lists," neighbor Don Charette said.

According to neighbors, Verville moved into the neighborhood in 2012 and provided neighbors with pamphlet claiming that he was on a terrorist watch list and under 24 hour surveillance by the government.

"I publicly state here that I am not a terrorist of any type and should not be on any Fusion Center List" he allegedly wrote, "I am here planning nothing more than a peaceful retirement for myself and family."

Kurt Kiley lives directly across the street. He said he was "not surprised" to see police action at the home, adding that he has a no-trespass order against Verville.

According to Kiley, SWAT team members set up snipers in his bedroom because of the vantage point he had to the home in question.
