LoJack Helps Marshfield Police Rescue Man With Alzheimer's Disease
MARSHFIELD (CBS) - Police say a little piece of technology helped them rescue an elderly man from a dangerous situation Wednesday.
When Vinny DiNatale did not return from a walk, his wife called police. The 82-year-old from Marshfield suffers from Alzheimer's disease, and is prone to wandering. But this time, he was wearing a new ankle bracelet called the SafetyNet by LoJack.
Using a special antenna, police were able to pick up on signals the bracelet sends out. Police say DiNatale was entangled deep in a marsh about a half-mile from his home. "He was in an area where no one could see him. It was a remote area, very close to the South River. He was trapped in a patch of briars and unable to get out," says Marshfield Police Capt. Phil Tavares.
DiNatale's wife says the bracelet may have saved his life. "I just feel so much calmer, just the fact that he has this dumb thing on here and it works!"
