Logan Airport To Stay Open In Snowstorm
BOSTON (AP) - Authorities plan to deploy dozens of crews to keep Boston's Logan International Airport runways clear of snow as the first major snowstorm of the year hits Massachusetts.
The National Weather Service on Tuesday afternoon issued a blizzard warning for the east coast of Massachusetts, citing strong northeast winds and snow. Between 12 and 16 inches of snow is expected to accumulate in Boston and the Plymouth county from 2 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
But that has not discouraged Massport from planning to keep Logan airport operating.
Spokesman Richard Walsh says Massport has more than 50 pieces of snow equipment and about 100 people ready to combat the snow and keep Logan runways open.
A blizzard warning is issued when forecasters expect sustained winds or frequent gusts over 35 mph, with considerable blowing and drifting snow.
