Local Rugby Club Shows Softer Side By Giving Back Off The Field
BOSTON (CBS) - A local rugby club showed its softer side this week, as members volunteered both here and in New York.
Earlier in the week, a contingency from the Boston Maccabi Rugby Club traveled to Breezy Point, New York to volunteer on Hurricane Sandy relief projects.
On Friday, they handed out more than 50 turkeys to families in need at the Roxbury Boys and Girls Club as a part of Boston City Councilor Tito Jackson's 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway. The turkeys were donated by rugby players, family, and friends, and Sam Slater of the Slater Foundation.
On the field, the Maccabis are coming off their first ever New England Rugby Football season, in which they went undefeated and claimed the league championship.
While welcoming players from all backgrounds and walks of life, the Boston Maccabi Rugby Club maintains an off-the-field commitment to traditional Jewish values of repairing the world and giving back.
