Local Moviegoers Concerned After Shooting In Colorado
CAMBRIDGE (CBS) - The tragedy in Colorado was on the minds of Boston area movie patrons, but it didn't deter them from seeing the highly anticipated film "The Dark Knight Rises."
They lined up at Fresh Pond Cinema in Cambridge, but many admitted to a heightened sense of their surroundings.
Asked if he had second thoughts about attending the movie, Todd Gross said, "Yes, it was such a horrible event I can't imagine what people must have gone through." But he also added he can't be paralyzed by fear. "People can't live their lives in fear or stop doing things because of awful events like this either," he said.
Ben Altshuler said you have to question security a little bit, "but you have to say what are the odds you're going to encounter something like this."
Theater manager Linda Hanney says she is confident in their security procedures, which include constant checks on exit doors to make sure they are secure. She also received calls from patrons asking about their security measures, including parents who were concerned about their children attending the theater. "We always do enough for security here," she said.
The chaos and terror outside the suburban Denver theater sent more than chills, and many moviegoers say they do take theater security for granted. "It's something I never thought of that there would be an extra risk going to the movies," said Connor Sullivan.
But as the lights went down many felt their risk was no greater than any place else. "It's no more dangerous than any place in life," said Alan Geismer.
