Littleton Family Saves 2 From Burning SUV On Mass Pike
LITTLETON (CBS) - A Littleton family is still reliving some intense moments from this weekend, when they saved two peoples' lives on the Massachusetts Turnpike.
Around 2:30 Saturday morning, the Joyce family was coming home from Logan Airport, fresh off their Alaskan vacation.
Not far from the Allston tolls, they came upon an SUV on its side and on fire.
Inside the vehicle were a man and a woman, both 25 years old, who were too disoriented to free themselves.
"When I was telling them to unlock the doors they weren't able to figure out how to unlock the doors," explains Brian Joyce, one of the rescuers.
Brian and his brothers helped keep traffic away and at the same time managed to pull the couple to safety. Rescue crews arrived moments later.
"It's an incredibly proud moment to see," explains the boys' father Steven, who says his sons practically leapt out of the family car as soon as he slowed down at the accident scene.
Massachusetts State Police say the driver of the SUV, a man from New York, was cited for his third offense of driving drunk.
Neither he nor his passenger, a woman from Wilmington, was seriously hurt.
