Little League Volunteer Attacked At Waltham Park
WALTHAM (CBS) – Waltham Police are investigating the attempted sexual assault of a mom volunteering at a baseball snack shack.
The woman was shaken by the attack and does not want to reveal her identity, but she did want to share her story as a warning to other women.
"I am just going to be more aware about my surroundings and the more I speak about it to people they'll then realize they'll have to do the same," she said.
The incident happened at 11:45 p.m. Saturday at Lazzaro Field.
The woman said she was restocking snacks to be sold at the games. She said she has always felt very safe and often takes care of restocking at night after work and taking care of the kids.
On Saturday night, she said a man entered the small concrete building wearing a ski mask and holding a large serrated knife.
She said he told her to take her clothes off. "He said 'put down the scissors' and I just ran out of the shack," she said.
She was able to push her way past him and run out of the only doorway. She said she was screaming while running up the street and pulled a nearby fire alarm for help.
The baseball league is now planning on making security changes.
"Next year we'll have a whole slew of different rules, a camera system and an alarm," said Bill Hanley, board of directors of Waltham Youth Baseball.
The man ran off in the other direction. Because he was wearing a mask, the victim was able to give a vague description. He was 5'10 and had a medium build.
