Lighting Of State House Menorah To Mark Start Of Hanukkah
BOSTON (AP) — Top state officials and a local rabbi are expected to attend a special ceremony to light the Statehouse menorah.
Gov. Deval Patrick, House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Senate President Therese Murray are scheduled to join Rabbi Rachmiel Liberman for a lighting ceremony at the Grand Staircase at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The lighting of the 18-foot menorah marks the arrival of Hanukkah.
The ceremony will include music performed by students from the Schecter Day School and is open to the public.
Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish Festival of Lights, commemorates the rededication of the Temple by the Maccabees after their victory over the Syrians.
