Light At The End of the Tunnel
The past 3 days have been wet, wet, wet! 3.85" of rain in Pepperell through the duration! Most have seen rain totals of 1.5-3". This is exactly what we needed to help alleviate some of some of the drought conditions which developed in April and May.
The Low remains parked off the coast tonight and is slowly meandering north. Rain and drizzle remain firmly entrenched over us tonight. Rain will begin to taper to drizzle after midnight. Breezy NW winds have picked up on the back side of the low. Cooler air is being directed into New England with these chilly winds. Temps will continue to fall into the 30's tonight where rain will change to snow in the NW hills and Mountains. Elevations above 2000 feet will see over 6" of snow in the mtns of Vermont! Quite remarkable for this time of year. This is the coldest Memorial day weekend we have seen since 1967 when temps we similar to where they are now in the mid 40's.
Sunday will gradually become drier. Morning clouds, with some left over drizzle in the morning. Clouds will begin to break and lift for a few breaks of sun to emerge in the afternoon with breezy NW winds which could gust to 30+ mph. Highs will climb to the mid-upper 50's nearing 60 on the south coast...where we should see brighter skies further away from the departing low.
Clearing skies will continue into Memorial Day with building high pressure, plenty of sunshine and warming west winds which will be able to push temps to near 70 or the Lwr 70's by the afternoon. By Tuesday Highs will be in the mid 70's with sunshine. We will be tracking a warm front on Wednesday which will come with clouds, a few showers or even a thunderstorm. This front will mark the leading edge of some real summer like warmth which will come marching eastward under a big upper level ridge which will be shifting east ward for the end of the week. Highs to end the week should be well into the 80's with increasing humidity. Everyday has the slight risk of a pop up shower or thunderstorm. The summer warmth will remain in place for all of next weekend. So while the beaches are empty this weekend...they will be sure to fill up in the days to come!
