Leverett Plane Crash Kills 1, Injures 3
LEVERETT (CBS) -- Federal investigators are headed to the scene of a deadly plane crash in western Massachusetts.
State police say the small plane may have hit some power lines.
The National Transportation Safety Board will visit the scene on Monday to try and figure out what happened.
WBZ-TV's Peg Rusconi reports.
One person was killed in the crash and three others were badly hurt. They were brought to an area hospital for treatment.
The Cessna went down in a field in Leverett, just north of Amherst. The plane is registered to Airborne Maintenance Inc. out of New York. It crashed 30 minutes after takeoff from Templeton.
One possible scenario investigators may look at today is that the pilot was trying to safely land in a field.
According to flight records, the plane was bound for Long Island, NY.
The FAA is investigating.
