Level 3 Sex Offender Charged With Kidnapping Outside Woburn Court

WOBURN (CBS) – Woburn police arrested a Level 3 sex offender accused of driving away from a courthouse with a young child he was asked to watch.

Police said that on Friday afternoon a woman and man were at Woburn District Court for a proceeding when they asked a man they had only known for a day or two to watch their car and 20-month-old daughter.

When the man and woman, who are New Hampshire residents, left the courthouse they discovered their car and daughter were both gone.

After a search that lasted about 45 minutes, Woburn police found the car.

Victor Baez Jr., 36, of Worcester, was arrested and charged with kidnapping of a child, receiving stolen property, reckless endangerment of a child with risk of serious injury and subsequent offense of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Baez is a Level 3 sex offender, listed for a 2004 conviction of indecent assault and battery on child under 14 years of age.

Police said the child suffered no injuries as a result of the incident, though she was taken to an area hospital as a precaution. Baez was also hospitalized.

The Department of Children and Families is investigating, police said.

Baez is scheduled to be arraignmened in Woburn District Court on Monday.
