Leicester Resident Photographs Possible Mountain Lion
LEICESTER (CBS) – Police are hoping to positively identify a mysterious animal.
A Leicester resident took a photograph of what police described as a "mountain lion type animal" that was spotted in the 400 block of Pine Street.
Leicester police posted the photo on their Facebook page Thursday and notified the Animal Control Officer. They will also consult with the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife.
According to police, there have been multiple sightings of bobcats recently.
In a fact sheet about bobcats, the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife said that for the most part, the animals do not pose a danger to humans.
"Compared to many other wildlife species bobcats rarely cause conflicts with human activities. Occasionally a bobcat may kill livestock but it is not a significant problem in Massachusetts," the fact sheet said.
