Lawyer: Witness Lied Repeatedly About Machete Attacks
NASHUA, N.H. (AP) - The New Hampshire teenager who witnessed the machete attacks on a mother and daughter during a Mont Vernon home invasion says he didn't attack the victims.
Despite a withering cross examination, 19-year-old William Marks maintains it was murder defendant Steven Spader who attacked Kimberly Cates and her 11-year-old daughter with a machete in October 2009.
Kimberly Cates was killed and her daughter injured.
Spader is on trial for murder. He's pleaded not guilty.
Defense attorney Jonathan Cohen accused Marks of lying when he said he did not attack the pair. Marks denied it and again stated he saw the attacks but did not take part.
Cohen read a poem Marks wrote in prison two months ago, in which he said he liked to cut up women with an ax.
