Lawrence Man Allegedly Crashed Into 2 Police Cruisers During Chase

HAVERHILL (CBS) – A man and woman were arrested in Haverhill Tuesday afternoon after a police chase that resulted in two crashes involving cruisers.

At noontime, Methuen Police say 30-year-old Chad Tombarello of Lawrence failed to stop for officers on Broadway. He then began driving on the wrong side of the road and got on I-93 north where he crossed into New Hampshire, police say.

In Salem, NH, Tombarello exited the highway where "he allegedly crashed into a Salem Police Cruiser with intent, allegedly in order to further evade police."

After the crash, police say Tombarello re-entered Massachusetts and rammed into a NH State Police cruiser in Haverhill.

Tombarello and his passenger, 23-year-old Natasha Johnson of Haverhill, fled after the crash and were arrested near the scene.

Tombarello has three active arrest warrants in Mass. and faces several charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest.

Johnson was charged with disorderly conduct.

During his attempted getaway, police say Tombarello knocked over an elderly woman resulting in the assault and battery charge.
