Lawmaker: Gambling bill still could get done
A top Senate negotiator says Massachusetts legislators are "in full gear" in an attempt to craft a final compromise version of casino legislation.
Sen. Stanley Rosenberg said Friday that he met with members of a casino legislative panel for two hours on Thursday night and will meet again Friday morning.
The Amherst Democrat said Senate President Therese Murray presented House Speaker Robert DeLeo a proposal on Thursday, and the speaker responded with a proposal of his own.
The two leaders are expected to meet to discuss the proposals, but Rosenberg did not divulge details from their compromise offers.
Rosenberg said he hopes to see a final bill pass so that a regulatory structure will be in place if Native American tribes secure permission from the federal government for expanded gambling.
