Last Week of August

All is quiet across Southern New England on this last Monday in August '12.

The sun will be shining, and the humdity will be rising today.  High temps will reach the middle 80s...cooler South Coast/Cape/Islands.  Southwest winds will be blowing at 10-20 mph.

Tonight, clouds will increase and showers and thunderstorms will develop late.  There will be some locally heavy downpours on Tuesday morning.  A cold front will move through between 10am-3pm from west to east on Tuesday.  Drier air will work in behind the front with breaks of sunshine occurring from west to east late in the day.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will be a series of beautiful days as we receive protection from high pressure.  High temperatures will be in the upper 70s with low humidity on Wednesday. Then, temps climb into the middle 80s on Thursday and the 90s on Friday.  ***'Once in a Blue Moon' will be a fitting phrase this Thursday and Friday night with our second full moon ('blue moon') occuring this month at 9:57am on Friday, August 31.  This happens about every 2.5 years.  The next time we will have two full moons in a month will be in July of 2015.

This weekend, the beginning of September, is looking quiet as well. Saturday, the beginning of Meteorological Fall, will be in the 80s with sunshine. Sunday will be partly cloudy with cooler highs near 80F...70s coast...as models are hinting at a backdoor cold front.

Tropical Update:  T.S. Isaac is expected to reach hurricane status within the 24 hours or so.  It will be churning in the Gulf of Mexico until it makes landfalls sometime late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning.  It's projected to be a category one hurricane when it makes landfall. There are a couple of other tropical waves that we'll be watching over the next several days as well.
