Las Vegas Man Says Bulger Tipster Should Share $2 Million Reward
BOSTON (CBS) – A woman from Iceland has been identified as the tipster who led the FBI to Whitey Bulger's hideout in California.
Former Miss Universe contestant and actress Anna Bjornsdottir was Bulger's sometime neighbor in Santa Monica.
Anna befriended both Bulger and Greig through a stray cat that the couple used to feed everyday.
WBZ-TV's Paul Burton reports
Now living an ocean away in Iceland Anna saw the couple's photo on CNN and immediately contacted the FBI. She recently collected the two million dollar award for Bulger's arrest.
Keith Messina tells WBZ, "I'm, feeling upset because if you go back to 2008 and my original tip with America's Most Wanted they would've nailed him, and it would've been all over then."
Keith Messina who lives in Las Vegas says he deserves at least part of the reward money, after he claims he spotted Bulger back in 2008 by the Santa Monica pier and filed a report to the FBI.
"All these years you're wasting tax payers money," says Messina. "Then to deny me acknowledgment or even part of that tip."
Messina has hired an attorney and plans to file a lawsuit against the FBI. Meanwhile he would like the opportunity to speak with Anna Bjornsdottir and tell his story.
"In goodness of the heart she should say you know what you did the 2008 tip there it is in black and white maybe you should share it."
Bjornsdottir is declining all interviews, and chooses not to speak about the Bulger case or the reward money.
