Contractor Hits Main Gas Line, Forcing Evacuations In Hyde Park
HYDE PARK (CBS) - A large gas leak forced evacuations in the Logan Square area of Hyde Park on Thursday.
Fire officials said backhoe hit a main gas line near River Street before 5 p.m., causing the leak.
According to NStar, a crew working for Verizon struck the 6 inch gas main. NStar responded to the scene to turn off the gas.

One worker reported feeling lightheaded and was evaluated at the scene.
Fire officials reported that there were some evacuations at homes on Fairmont Avenue.
Boston police closed off the area to traffic. No traffic will be allowed on River Street at Logan Square from Logan Square to Cleary Square.
Repairs are being made to the line. NStar says 25 customers are affected.
