2 Lamborghinis Stolen In Wayland Found Crashed In Malden
WAYLAND (CBS) – Police have one person in custody and are looking for two others after two Lamborghinis were stolen in Wayland and later crashed in Malden.
The Lamborghini SUVs were taken from a Herb Chambers dealership on Route 20 in Wayland around 3 a.m. Tuesday. Police said the thieves broke a window in the showroom to get the keys to the cars which were in the lot. An alarm went off and when police arrived they saw the SUV's and a third car speeding away. Officers stopped the third car and arrested two teenagers who didn't have licenses.
Then, around 8 a.m. the two stolen SUVs were found crashed at the intersection of Charles and Pearl streets in Malden. The drivers ran off and police caught one of them, later identified as 18-year-old Elijah McKinney of Cambridge. They are still searching for two others involved.
"It's quite unusual to see a couple of Lamborghinis zipping around Malden so it was pretty easy to figure out that they were the ones that were stolen from Wayland," Malden Police Det. Capt. Marc Gatcomb told WBZ-TV. "There were two other individuals who fled the vehicle as well. We've continued to search with K9 officers from the Malden and state police. So a search and an investigation is actively ongoing.
Malden Police said there was a third vehicle involved in the crash and that a woman was hurt. She was taken to the hospital with what they described as "non-life threatening injuries."
"I didn't know what was happening at the time, just that it was an accident, but when I saw the police up the street, kind of knew there was something else going on, that they were looking for somebody," said Lisa Colleameno, who lives near the crash scene. She saw officers searching her neighbor's yard.
"I asked one of the police officers if it's o.k. to go outside and she said she thought so, but she said lock your doors because he's hiding in the yards somewhere."
McKinney was ordered to stay away from the dealership. He is now on house arrest with a GPS.
"The Herb Chambers Companies would like to thank the Wayland Police for their quick response and outstanding work. Our technology resources were helpful in this case and we will continue to work with and support investigators as the case moves forward," Herb Chambers spokesman George Regan said in a statement.
No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
