John Lackey (9-3) tossed 7 innings giving up just 1 run in the Red Sox 8-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park on Tuesday night. David Ortiz (17) and Bill Hall (6) both hit home runs in the win. Adrian Beltre went 4-4 with 2 doubles.
The Sox win, coupled with the Yankees 7-4 loss to the Mariners, means New York's lead in the A.L. East is down to 1 game.
The Red Sox and Rays conclude their brief 2 game set Wednesday night. Daisuke Matsuzaka will be on the mound opposite Matt Garza. First pitch is at 7:10pm.
