Krug On Gresh & Zo: Boston 'Eats, Sleeps And Breathes Hockey'
Torey Krug of the Boston Bruins joined Gresh and Zolak for his first appearance as a weekly guest. We learned the defenseman's favorite Rush song and that he loves playing hockey in the city of Boston.
How did they get started on the topic of Rush? On an episode of NESN's Behind The B,Torey and fellow defenseman Matt Bartkowski were jamming out to rock n' rolls favorite trio.
This prompted an obvious question: favorite rush song?
"'Limelight'. 'Limelight' for sure."
Krug gave Gresh & Zo a scouting report of his game, and admitted the area of his game that needs the most improvement is his consistency.
"I just try to be a guy that helps the team out on every night," said the 22-year-old. "You try to be a guy that helps the team out on every night. That's part of being a professional hockey player, you want to be consistent night in and night out for 82 games. That's something I'm working on, my consistency."
The rookie scored his sixth goal of the season in last night's win over the Florida Panthers, which ties him for the NHL lead among defenseman.
When asked about his knack for putting the puck in the back of the net, Krug said it's all about "instinct" and knowing when the right opportunity is to jump in on a play.
Zo asked Krug about Dougie Hamilton and Matt Bartkowski, and if the young guys stick together in the locker room. Krug confirmed that, but went on to say there are no cliques in the Bruins locker room and everyone gets along.
Krug hasn't been in town long, but he already has the feel of what it's like to play in such a passionate hockey town. He called the Boston fanbase "awesome" and loves playing for a city that "eats, sleeps and breathes hockey" - adding that the Bruins reflect the city's hard-working, blue collar identity.
Lastly, as Michigan State alums, Hardy and Krug shared a special moment towards the end of the interview..."Sparty On!"
