Kraft: DeflateGate 'Would Have Been Over Quickly' Had NFL Known About Ideal Gas Law
BOSTON (CBS) -- With the Patriots making their first appearance of the season on ESPN's Monday Night Football, you just knew DeflateGate would get brought up at some point.
Just a few hours before kickoff of the Patriots and Bills showdown at Gillette Stadium, it was reported that the NFL's appeal over Tom Brady's four-game suspension being thrown out would be heard in March and not interfere with Super Bowl 50. And just before the game, Patriots president Jonathan Kraft was asked about ESPN's reporting during the whole saga that engulfed the football world for over nine months.
Kraft still doesn't hold it against ESPN for reporting misinformation in the hours after New England's AFC Championship win over the Indianapolis Colts.
"I don't think ESPN, the day after the AFC Championship game, said 'Hey, we want to go get the Patriots.' I don't believe that's something they wanted to do," Kraft told Marc Bertrand on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Patriots Preview. "As a conduit of the public, sometimes you're given information and that information isn't accurate. Unfortunately we ended up with what we ended up with."
Kraft added that had those in the league remembered back to their high school science days, the whole saga wouldn't have lasted very long.
"If more people involved with football had been aware of the Ideal Gas Law, it would have been over quickly," Kraft said. "We tried to explain it and people weren't interested."
The Patriots shared their opinion of how the Ideal Gas Law should have played into Ted Wells' investigation of under-inflated footballs in a lengthy document shortly after Wells' report was released.
