STOUGHTON - A Kohl's department store south of Boston will be closing its doors not long after the holiday shopping season ends.

Kolh's said it is shuttering its Stoughton store at 501 Technology Center Dr. on Jan. 18, 2025. That location is also home to a Sephora beauty store inside Kohl's.

"Kohl's regularly evaluates its store portfolio to ensure our fleet of stores is providing the best experience for our customers," a company spokesperson told WBZ-TV.

According to a WARN notice filed with the state last week, the closure affects 77 Kohl's workers in Stoughton. Kohl's said employers "were offered the option to apply for positions at other local stores."

The nearest Kohl's locations are in East Walpole and Hingham. There will be 24 Kohl's stores left in Massachusetts after the Stoughton location closes.

In November, The Brockton Enterprise reported that the Kohl's building in Stoughton was being advertised as available for lease. The 89,000 square-foot building built in 2004 is right off Route 24.

The Associated Press reported last month that Kohl's saw its recent sales slump deepen in its quarterly report. The Wisconsin-based company also forecast that sales declines for the year would be worse than expected.

Kohl's is also undergoing a leadership change at the top. CEO Tom Kingsbury is stepping down in January and will be replaced by Ashley Buchanan, who is the CEO of Michaels and has also been an executive at Walmart and Sam's Club.
