Kennedy School Lecturer Says Low Base Turnout, Not 'Gifts' Led To Romney's Loss
BOSTON (CBS) - Some of his Republican peers are being critical of former presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
In a conference call Wednesday to his campaign's national finance committee, Romney blamed his loss on "gifts" promised by President Barack Obama to minority and young voters.

David King, public policy lecturer from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, said there was more to Romney's loss than meets the eye.
"Turnout in Texas dropped 11 percent, turnout even in Vermont and in South Carolina both dropped 10 percent," King said. "Mitt Romney failed across the board to bring out his own base."
King said Romney's campaign was "an echo" of the 2010 campaign.
"An off-year election with very low turnout in that Congressional election and the Republican right was still reacting to the tea party movement," King said. "That is over."
