Keller @ Large: Criticism For President Obama Affects Shaheen In NH Senate Race
BOSTON (CBS) – The race for U.S Senate in New Hampshire remains too close to call, raising the stakes for Tuesday night's debate between incumbent Jeanne Shaheen and challenger Scott Brown.
Democratic incumbents around the country are being criticized for their support of a president whose job-approval ratings have dropped. And, Jeanne Shaheen's re-election chances may depend on how negative the response is.
"She's voting with the president 99% of the time and that's not good for New Hampshire," Scott Brown said in Tuesday's debate.
In the latest WBZ/UMass Amherst poll nearly half the voters said they strongly disapprove of President Obama's job performance, and 69% said the country's on the wrong track.
"In some ways I approve, in some ways I don't approve," Shaheen said Tuesday night when asked if she approved of the President's work.
"Sometimes there are factors beyond your control, and there are things happening in the country that affect a race," added Shaheen.
In the latest Associated Press national polling, the President is low in public opinion of his handling of several major issues, including the the economy, health care, ISIS, and Ebola.
