Keller @ Large: A-Rod's Ego Trip Returns To Boston
BOSTON (CBS) - I went to Fenway Park Wednesday night for the first time this season, and while this year's Red Sox may not have enough pitching to contend, they do have talented players who work hard, and that alone will make them interesting to watch.
Hanley Ramirez is a pleasure to watch at the plate. Dustin Pedroia is healthy again, and no one plays harder than Brock Holt, just to name a few highlights.
(By the way, a side note to Red Sox management – if you even think of trading Mookie Betts, I will not be the only furious fan you will have to contend with.)
These guys all stand in stark contrast to the arrival at Fenway Friday night of Alex Rodriguez, a man with more talent than anyone on the Red Sox, but zero integrity.
You all know the story of A-Rod, a prodigious hitter who decided a few years back he needed a boost from illegal performance-enhancing drugs.
In case you hadn't noticed, A-Rod is off to a hot start this season as he returns from a year's suspension. Clearly, he never needed to break the rules to succeed.
But he did, and completely disgraced himself by lying in everyone's face about it for years before finally being exposed.
Now he's back, because the Yankees feel they can't afford to eat the remainder of the huge contract they unwisely gave him. They are obviously humiliated to have him in their lineup, despite his production, and have notably ignored the fact that he's about to tie Willie Mays on the all-time home run list.
A-Rod could do the classy thing, settle for a buyout and go off somewhere to do whatever rich retired frauds do.
But no, he's here this weekend on his ego trip, and boy am I glad he's not one of ours.
