Just Simply Cold...

These last two days the weather has been very complicated and turbulent, we literally have seen it all.  Well we are taking a turn for the benign, simply put, it's just going to be cold.

At one point today the temperature was actually in the 50s, just before noon Boston topped out at 54 degrees.  As I write, at 6:30PM, the temp is now 33 degrees...that's a substantial drop in just 6 hours.  As these two extremes collided we saw snow showers and squalls that coated roads north and west of Boston this afternoon.  The snow showers fell into surface air that was above freezing so there was a little melting and now that temps are slipping below freezing we will see ice form in those areas that had snow showers.

This upcoming cold snap is being ushered in by exceptionally strong winds...through the afternoon we have seen frequent gusts over 50 mph and there have been a few gusts over 70 mph on the Cape.  The wind will diminish tonight and tomorrow but will remain fairly strong with gusts to 30 mph overnight and tomorrow.

The cold will be deep and lengthy...temps for almost all locals will stay below freezing now through next Tuesday afternoon...easily the longest cold snap of the season.  The coldest day of the stretch will be Sunday when the high will struggle to clear 20 degrees and the coldest morning of the stretch will be Monday morning when the low will dip down to single digits and even some negative numbers where there is snow on the ground.

Of course the big event is Saturday night with the Pats and obviously we are looking at a frigid set-up with temps either side of 20 degrees and windchills in the single digits or teens.

The warmth will make a brief return middle of next week and as it arrives Tuesday morning and interacts with the occupying cold there may be some light mixed precip or freezing rain Tuesday morning...

Have a good weekend and go Pats!
