Jury Selection Postponed In Uzi Trial
SPRINGFIELD (AP) -- Jury selection has been continued until after the new year in the manslaughter trial of a former western Massachusetts police chief in the death of an 8-year-old Connecticut boy who shot himself with an Uzi at a gun show.
Former Pelham Police Chief Edward Fleury was in Hampden Superior Court on Friday as jury selection resumed. The trial had been suspended about a week when Fleury was hospitalized. The process is now on hold until January 3.
Fleury has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of Christopher Bizilj of Ashford, Conn. The boy shot himself in the head at a gun fair sponsored by Fleury's company.
Also Friday, Judge Peter Velis ruled part of the audio from a recording of the boy's shooting would not be allowed in the trial.
