BOSTON - Happy Independence Day ... I think? The holiday stretch hasn't been the one we've hoped for and the Fourth has a few fireworks of its own.

The NEXT Weather Alert continues for the holiday as heavy rain and thunderstorms are pushing through the area. Steadier rain will dampen conditions on the Esplanade through the evening while torrential rain has prompted flash flood warnings for parts of southeastern Massachusetts. No matter your plans, if you hear thunder, head indoors and seek shelter from the incoming storm. The highest chance of storms will be south of the Pike through the evening hours. The biggest impact from storms will be lightning and heavy rain leading to localized flooding. There have been reports of 1"-2" of rain in just one hour from these storms.

Thankfully the timing is on our side! By the time sunset rolls around a lot of the t'storm threat will diminish or push south. This is lining up perfectly for fireworks displays across the region. Whether going to the Esplanade, Polar Park, or the other cities/towns, most of the rain/storms should be clearing. It will still remain mild and humid with most between 65-70°.

Areas of low clouds and fog are possible overnight with temperatures mainly in the 60s. The pattern dries out a bit for the rest of the week with a return to summer heat and humidity. Temperatures will soar into the 80s away from the coast on Wednesday and Thursday with some communities nearing 90 degrees. Combine that with the very humid conditions, and feels-like conditions will be in the low to mid-90s. Despite the low chance of an isolated storm inland, most areas will stay dry. Unsettled weather looks to return by late Friday into the weekend.
