Judge's Delay Puts Hundreds Of Boston Police Officer Promotions On Hold
BOSTON (CBS) --The careers of hundreds of Boston Police officers are on hold as a judge sits on a 2-year-old case.
A group of minority police officers filed a lawsuit, alleging the police promotional exam discriminates against blacks and Hispanics.
Federal Judge George O'Toole has not yet ruled on the fairness of the exam, even though he heard closing arguments two years ago. Now Boston Police officers who would like to take the promotional exam can't because the whole process is on hold.
Police Commissioner Ed Davis says if they were to administer a new test and then the judge ruled that it had to be changed, they would have to rescind promotions. Davis says until the judge rules, the whole thing is on hold.

"We understand the complexity of this case and it's not something that can be decided easily but we are urging the judge to move forward with this because it's going to create a problem in the development of the new test," Davis said.
Davis said at issue is the promotional exam and there hasn't been delays with the entry exam.
