Judge Denies Bail For Friend Of Marathon Suspect
BOSTON (AP) — A judge has rejected a bail request from a friend of the dead Boston Marathon bombing suspect while he awaits trial on charges of impeding the investigation.
Khairullozhon Matanov, a friend of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, is accused of deleting computer files and lying when questioned about his relationship with Tamerlan and his younger brother, Dzhokhar.
Authorities say the Tsarnaevs placed twin bombs at the marathon that killed three and wounded more than 260. Tamerlan Tsarnaev died following a shootout with police. His brother awaits trial.
Matanov's lawyer has argued that he voluntarily went to police after the bombings and identified the brothers.
But Magistrate Judge Marianne Bowler says she agrees with prosecutors that Matanov is a flight risk because he has friends and family around the world. Matanov is from Kyrgyzstan.
