Jones: What's Going To Happen With Jerod Mayo?
BOSTON (CBS) – Thursday night means it's time for some Role Play on The Adam Jones Show's Game of Jones!
Here are the questions:
You are Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. What's going to happen with Jerod Mayo?
Jones as Belichick: "He's going to be on this football team next year if he's willing to restructure his deal at our liking. It's basically Vince Wilfork 2.0. If he is willing to take a major reduction in salary, we will keep him around. If not, have fun and go sign somewhere else. We want you here. Good leader on the team, good guy to have around and good player on the field. Collins and Hightower were good enough to win without him. We'll find a way to work him in if he wants to come back. He certainly needs to reduce that cap figure for next year so we can sign guys like Darrelle Revis, Shane Vereen, and Devin McCourty."
You are now Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Did it occur to you on that last play that maybe you could have called an audible?
Jones as Wilson: "No. I go out there and run the plays that Pete and Darrell Bevell call. Look, I think we had the guy open. I think Lockette was open. If we're being candid, it was not my greatest call. I did not think about using an audible in that situation. I had a high degree of confidence in that play and thought we had the Patriots on their toes. I did not think they knew what was coming, and they did. Malcolm Butler made a great play on it. But no I did not think about doing audible on that play."
You are now Celtics president and general manager Danny Ainge. Who is the most likely player to be traded away from your current roster?
Jones as Ainge: "Really, everyone except Marcus Smart and James Young if we're being honest. But the guy we will absolutely one hundred percent no brainer move by the deadline is Marcus Thornton. He's a scorer and fills a role off the bench. He's been scoring at a decent clip for us. I'm not saying we will get a huge return for him. But I would say Thornton, even above Brandon Bass. Those are two obvious guys to move. With both players in final years of their deal, I think those are two guys that can help contenders. I think Thornton would be at the top of some team's list."
You are now the brain trust for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers front office. Where are you leaning right now with the no. 1 pick for the NFL Draft?
Jones as Bucs Brain Trust: "Marcus Mariota has been the consensus no. 1 guy all year. He didn't play great in the National Championship if we're being honest, but all of a sudden things are starting to turn and there is leaked information that Mariota is going to slide. We're in on Mariota. That's still the guy who is going no. 1. How can you trust Jameis Winston off the field?"
You are Syracuse men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim. Would there be a self imposed tournament ban if your team was any good?
Jones as Boeheim: "There is zero percent chance if the team was good that we would be self imposing any penalties right now. I, Jim Boeheim, have never taken or admitted to being guilty in this academic scandal and the various things we've covered up at Syracuse. If we were good though, 0.0 chance that we would be self imposing sanctions. The team is not very good."
