Jones: Patriots-Vikings A Litmus Test For Team's Drafting Philosophy
BOSTON (CBS) - The Patriots and their drafting philosophy is often a hot topic of discussion on sports radio in this city, the "acquiring of assets" and "stockpiling draft picks" and of course "trading back for value."
98.5 The Sports Hub's Adam Jones believes this week in particular is a good litmus test for that philosophy.
Jones and Rich Keefe discuss the team's mantra when it comes to taking wide receivers with high picks. In recent years they have traded down when they had an opportunity to draft players like Dez Bryant (2013 Pro Bowler), Demaryius Thomas (2012, 2013 Pro Bowler) and the receiver they face this week in Vikings playmaker Cordarrelle Patterson.
Patterson was also a Pro Bowler in 2013, albeit for special teams, but at 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds with 4.4 40-yard dash speed, the second year pro is a threat to score every time he touches the ball.
Between Bryant, Thomas and Patterson, aren't these the kind of players this offense needs right now?
