Jones: Are Celtics Or Bruins Closer To Being Championship Contender?
BOSTON (CBS) - It's a question that's been asked before on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Adam Jones Show, but with the final series underway in two of the four major sports, it's a question worth revisiting.
As the NHL and NBA Finals play out each night we're getting a good look at what it takes to be a championship-caliber team in each league.
So which Boston team, the Celtics or the Bruins, is closest to being a contender?
"Let's state the obvious: neither team is very close right now," Adam Jones admitted Tuesday night.
Which team is closer and which team is in better shape are two different questions, and Jones has a different answer for each.
"I think the team that is closer, just technically and just based on what they have, [is the Bruins], but I think they're trending the wrong way. I hate their approach this offseason promoting Don Sweeney [to general manager] and keeping [head coach] Claude Julien. Let's see what they do with the actual roster, but in terms of the decision makers over there I just hate their approach -- I like firing [former GM] Peter Chiarelli, but it pretty much ended there," Jones said.
Jones believes the Bruins are closer to another ring almost by default. But as far as being in the best shape long term, Jones believes that honor belongs to the Celtics.
Do you agree?
