Jon Lester, Jonny Gomes Nominate Ben Cherington, Traded Ex-Teammates For Ice Bucket Challenge
BOSTON (CBS) -- Prior to the trade deadline, the Red Sox clubhouse underwent an extreme makeover, with the team trading away seven players on or before July 31.
Now, they're all together again, thanks to the Ice Bucket Challenge of Jonny Gomes and Jon Lester.
The two Oakland A's were traded from Boston to Oakland on the morning of deadline day, and they're currently in the midst of a battle for first place in the AL West.
Despite the playoff race, the duo was able to put together an Ice Bucket Challenge video, and in it, they chose to challenge of their former teammates who were traded away.
"We want to go ahead and challenge a couple of our ex-teammates with the Red Sox that are no longer with the Red Sox," a bearded Gomes said while standing in front of a front loader, which held water over his head.
Gomes and Lester then nominated Stephen Drew (Yankees), Andrew Miller (Orioles), Felix Doubront (Cubs), John Lackey (Cardinals) and Jake Peavy (Giants).
Then, Gomes challenged the man who gave all those players their new homes, or as Lester described him: "The man who did it all."
"We also want to challenge the man who did it all in Ben Cherington," Gomes said.
When it was time to get soaked, Gomes instructed the front loader operator, "Go ahead, chief."
