Keller @ Large: Bill Weld's 'Advice' For Trump
BOSTON (CBS) -- Former Massachusetts Governor and current Libertarian vice presidential nominee Bill Weld sat down with WBZ political analyst Jon Keller to talk about his and Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson's campaign, as well as his thoughts on the Republican and Democratic candidates.
When Weld entered the 2016 race, he had some tough words for Donald Trump, comparing his immigration policy proposals to Kristallnacht. Jon asked him why Republicans and others should dump Trump in favor of him and Johnson.
"The guy is just not serious about what he says, particularly in foreign policy," said Weld. "He wants to go back to the buggy-whip age, and repeal the fact that we live in a global economy. The lack of substance and the innaccuracy on major policy issues is staggering for someone who pretends that he wants to be president of the United States."
He even had some "advice" for Trump.
"My best advice to him, he being a liberal New York City Democrat underneath it all, someone I can't imagine why any Republican would vote for, my best advice almost with affection is, Mr. Trump, can't you think of some other line of work you'd like to go into other than being President of the United States? Anything. The laundry business would be fine."
Weld had less harsh words for Hillary Clinton.
"I still say she's a good kid, I'm friendly with both the Clintons," he said.
But Weld said leaked emails between Clinton and her advisor Huma Abedin made him say "ouch."
"It wasn't so much what they said about access for Clinton friends to her as Secretary of State, it was the fact that she didn't produce them to the FBI," Weld said.
Weld and Keller also talked about Weld and Johnson's policies, and the idea of a third party as an election "spoiler."
