Jon Heyman with Gresh & Zo: Give Farrell AL Manager Of The Year
BOSTON (CBS) - It's been one heck of a turnaround by the Boston Red Sox this season, led by manager John Farrell.
The Red Sox can clinch a playoff berth Tuesday night with a win over the Orioles at Fenway and an Indians loss to the Royals. After winning just 69 games with Bobby Valentine at the helm last season, Farrell is one of the favorites to win American League Manager of the Year.
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh & Zolak on Tuesday for his weekly chat, and says forget being a favorite, Farrell should take home the hardware at the end of the year.
"Considering the turnaround and everything that has gone on from one year to the next is Boston, he is the choice," said Heyman. "You can make a case for [Oakland's Bob] Melvin and [Cleveland's Terry] Francona, but Boston has the best team right now, and from where they were, it's hard to argue that."
Heyman also touched on Koji Uehara's chances at the MVP or Cy Young awards, and what the Sox playoff rotation will look like come October:
